I have long marveled at the animosity created by differing political viewpoints. The most recent example of poor judgement, poor behavior and lack of fair play in the "land of the free," is Representative Maxine Waters' call for her supporters to harass Trump officials . That is simply a way to incite mob justice out of a low educated and excitable population. Can we not, as citizens of the United States, disagree without becoming uncivilized and resorting to thug mentality? Perhaps we cannot. There is no ability to agree to disagree on either the far left or far right of the political spectrum. I have a friend and former coworker who won't talk to me because I do not buy into the black lives matter mentality (because it only demands police accountability and does not address social causes). Whatever your political leanings or your attitude toward President Trump, it should be easy to see that children should not be separated from their parents at the border. As a father, I feel like my child is best cared for and happiest when he is with mom and dad. Whether or not you believe in open borders or strict border control and immigration, especially if you are a parent, you should understand that separating children from their parents is the stuff of governments without conscience s. This is not supposed to be what happens in the USA; but it does. It needs to stop. Process people without terrorizing them and their children. I am totally against the practice of separating children from their parents unless it is for the safety of the children.

We visited the Charles Lindbergh House and Museum in Little Falls , Minnesota. We were impressed because not only was the house (boyhood home) interesting, but there is a multi-level museum and beautiful natural surroundings as well.

We were lucky enough to be given a tour of the SPRUCE Project in the Chippewa National Forest, North of Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Our tour guide was W. Robert Nettles IV, SPRUCE Project Operations Manager at Oak Ridge National Laboratory . I went into the site fueled primarily by my lifetime of interest in the natural environment; as well as my interest from volunteering as a park ranger in the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. However, by the time I was done, my interest in technology, from over 10 years as an IT professional, was thoroughly peaked! Definitely off the "beaten path," in a spruce bog in Northern Minnesota, this site boasts an incredible array of scientific equipment that is supported by an amazing technological infrastructure! There are control sites and some of the chambers have added heat, carbon dioxide, or both. A lot of equipment and experimental testing goes on 24/7, 365 days per year. These guys know their stuff. We visited the Forest History Center in Grand Rapids , Minnesota. The tour of the 1900 era logging camp was great and was done by interpreters dressed in period clothing. Best was the view from the 100-foot Fire tower!

If you own a car, you have to have a title for it. It doesn't matter if it is new from a dealer, or you bought a 12-year-old-beater from uncle Frank, you have to have a title. But with a gun (i.e. a tool created exclusively to kill or simulate killing—as in target practice), I can buy one from anyone's uncle Frank; no questions asked. This seems odd to me. I don't believe for a minute, that a law making titles mandatory would be able to account for all of the privately owned (or possessed) firearms. Nor do I believe that a title would be the first step in the government taking anyone's guns away. It would, however, make people accountable for their own guns. Yes, I agree we should keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill. But how are you going to do that when they can buy one from a private party with no background check? So far, Doing Nothing has only resulted in continued and increasing gun violence and death . Isn't it time to at least try to do somethin...

Pooping in a Bucket May Add Years to Your Life UnAssociated Press May 18, 2018 An unscientific study by two guys from Toledo is raising eyebrows around the scientific community. It seems that pooping in a bucket, rather than in a toilet or on the floor, can actually add up to a decade to your lifespan! No one is sure how it works, but the study came out in writing and it was double-spaced, so it has to be true! People around the country are "jumping on the bandwagon;" as bucket sales have skyrocketed by 423% since the report first hit the New Bedford Journal of Medicine.

Kim Jong-Un Threatens to Skip Summit with U.S. UnAssociated Press May 16, 2018 Kim Jong-un has now threatened to skip his planned meeting with Donald Trump , unless he is given 12 cases of Oreo s by Noon tomorrow. When asked if he would send the cookies, Trump responded,   "We're working on it right now. We have our best people working on it. Because, he... ah... Kim has good taste."

The principal told me (by phone) that she "doesn't have a magic wand." This, because I asked if an incident at school had been addressed so that it wouldn't happen again. "Well I don't have a magic wand," she said, "so I can't tell you that it won't happen again." Now I'm reasonably sure, that she knew what I meant, and if she didn't and it happens again, we will be sitting face to face the next time I talk to her. I don't appreciate that kind of patronizing language during a serious discussion addressing child safety.

I put the vegetables in early this year in spite of a blizzard and a foot of snow just 22 days earlier. Now I just have to hope the nighttime temperatures remain relatively warm.
