American Water Lotus

I noticed the American Water Lotus were blooming in a nearby lake that we canoe and go fishing in. So, today we went to see them. We also did a little fishing, and my wife caught a nice sunfish that we released. The two swans that we saw in late June were still there. They don't appear to have ever tried to hatch the eggs we saw strewn about on the island. I still think that perhaps they are a young pair, not yet ready to raise a family. We also saw Water-lilies. But it was the Lotus that were spectacular at this time of the year.

Lots of Sunfish

Grilled Lake Trout

We caught it in July on Lake Superior.

American Lotus!

Packing up the canoe and fishing gear takes some time. The 2 mile drive to the closest lake does not. But we had fun. The Bald Eagle that we saw a few times passed overhead too quickly for a picture. But the American Water Lotus plants were absolutely stunning!

Fried Lake Trout

If you happened to have seen the Lake Trout we caught on Lake Superior, here is how a couple of filets looked fried tonight!

Superior Lake Trout

We chartered a fishing trip on Lake Superior with Happy Hooker Charters. Captain Peter Dahl and First Mate Judah found us some Lake Trout. When we got 7, I called it enough and we headed in. Two, Chrysler 318 cubic inch, V8 engines...

Dam!
