You Didn't Get a Deer???

You didn't get any deer? Next time try my yard.©️ That's right, my yard!©️ Nestled in a neighborhood just 6 miles from downtown St. Paul, my yard©️ offers the finest in hunting opportunities for deer🦌, turkeys 🦃, rabbits 🐇, and squirrels 🐿! Also, if you know the owner of my yard,©️ you might be able to order breakfast without leaving your camp! -Disclaimer- shooting firearms in the city limits is extremely forbidden! Make sure you are prepared to take your quarry the old fashioned way, in hand to hoof combat. -Disclaimer 2- The photo of CuTRis fighting a bull 🐂 is for informational purposes only. Had he been fighting a deer,🦌 he would have been properly licensed by both the Minnesota DNR, and the American Boxing Association. 🥊

Phantom Deer?

When I went to pick up my son from his friend's house last evening, a deer was suddenly laying on the road in front of my car. It had just been hit by one of the cars ahead of me, and there wasn't much I could do, so I went right over the top of it, and waited for the thump. The car went over, and I didn't hear anything. Apparently, the car was high enough, and the deer was laying on its side, in convulsions, and nothing happened. But it sure was freaky!

Only for a moment, then the moment's gone...

Buck's in the wind...

St. Paul Wildlife!

I literally saw turkeys everytime I left home today, and again when I returned. That was 6 times today. I also saw 3 deer on the last return trip. All sightings were within a quarter mile from home--usually much closer. In fact, we often see wildlife from our windows, in the neighborhood or in our yard. Living in the city is fun!

Apples...

I had to cover them with a net, but I finally got apples this year. Previously, the deer ate the trees, leaves branches and all.

Deer Again...

They like the neighbor's yard because he doesn't mow. The doe likes our gardens. The fawn still relies on milk.

You Can't Hide Yer Lyin' Deer

City deer just seem to find out early How to eat your plants in just a while A rich old garden and she won't have to worry She'll jump up over the fence, and arrive in style...

Garden Eaters

Odocoileus Virginianus

This is Schitt-head. She lives in my neighborhood and eats people's gardens for a living. Each year, she has two fawns and trains them to eat gardens. She is why my vegetable garden resembles a prison and my apple trees are dressed in mesh bags.

Protect the Apple Trees

I bagged the apple trees. It doesn't look that nice, but if we want to get any apples it had to be done. Otherwise, the deer will eat the trees down to the nubs.

Day 3: Key West, Blue Hole in Big Pine Key, Mini Deer, etc.

March 5, 2024 - We went to Key West and ate at the Stoned Crab. Key West was so busy, that it was hard to see things. There were lines, and no open parking spaces. We went to Blue Hole, in Big Pine Key, and saw a mini Key Deer, an alligator and some tarpon... basically, Blue Hole is man-made, is salt water below, and freshwater above. It contains tarpon from the Atlantic, and alligators, which live in freshwater. We also saw non-native iguanas, lots of birds, fish, lizards...

Oh Deer

As we were driving home, I wondered aloud where the deer have been...

First Apple!

Several years ago, I bought two bare root apple trees and dug out lots of clay and back filled with compost. A couple years later, my wife was not impressed and said we would never get apples. So, I decided to cover the tops of the trees this year, because the deer always eat them off every year. So, my Chestnut Crabapple produced one apple this year. We're still waiting for the dwarf Honeycrisp. But our first apple was delicious and though small, was shared by the whole family!
