Too Lazy to Recycle?

I dislike hypocrites. I also dislike people who won't be "inconvenienced," even though it is detrimental to our planet and future generations. So after once again, going to a couple of parties over the weekend, where people refused to recycle, I'm left with a bad feeling. Especially when these people, seem to outwardly hold their children in the highest regard. Yet they won't recycle! What kind of a world are they leaving for their children and grandchildren? And they will tell you that they don't recycle because no one else will. And often, they are correct. If you try to recycle, often, someone will come along after, and they will throw garbage in with it. So, then what are we leaving for future generations? So your great-grandchildren may never see a giraffe, or a tiger, or a polar bear? Is that such a big deal? Yes, it is! Creating a better world starts with individuals. People who do the right thing just because it's right. Not for instant gratificati...

School Shootings are Terrorism

It is terrorism to shoot schoolchildren. It is the extreme of cowardice. For it to continue as it has year after year, shows a lack of (real) concern for our most valuable and most vulnerable citizens. I'm tired of the excuses, because there is no excuse.

World War History Primer

While I was watching the news, My son (5th grade) asked me if we were heading for World War III. I can remember growing up, thinking that I was going to end up drafted and in a war (Vietnam was in the news at that time). I asked him what he knew about WWI and WWII. Then I decided he needed a crash course (of history). I found the answer on YouTube.com. These are both informative and entertaining. He has since watched several others in the series. WW1 - Oversimplified (part 1) WW1 - Oversimplified (part 2) WW2 - Oversimplified (part 1) WW2 - Oversimplified (part 2)

No More Shooting.

Parenting Means Children First

If you are a parent, you should feed your kids at a reasonable time, rather than let them go without adult supervision to get fast food after 9:00pm on a school night. Then you should make sure that they get to bed at a decent time so that they can do well in school. This is called being responsible and proactive. If you receive a call that your kids are in the back of a police car and they are underage, you probably weren’t paying attention to your kids or their needs (or safety). Instead of blaming the police who detained the children during a “shots fired” investigation, you should be happy that the kids are safe. Then you should STOP blaming others (being reactive), STOP using (and teaching) inappropriate language and behavior (irresponsible), and put your children’s needs before whatever it was you were occupied with when you should have been parenting. Good parenting is the most important thing that we can do for our children. They lack the maturity to make responsible choices ...

Putin is Responsible for Murder

I try to keep informed of the news and use multiple sources. Today I saw a disturbing story and images of a 6-year-old Ukrainian girl killed by Russian shelling. She was one of the victims of Putin's war. Trump thinks Putin is a genius, but I think both men are criminals. The reasons for the invasion are more misinformation. The tactics are barbaric. The results are devastating. Children should not have to die for the egos and self-interest of rich and powerful men--who use deceitful methods to send armies into other people's homes. There are no excuses and no justification. My heart is sad, and I want the killing to stop. I want the tyrants tried in a court for murder. It's more justice than one little soul was given.

Who is Shooting?

Three children have been shot in Minneapolis in three weeks. 185 people have been shot in Minneapolis in (almost) five months. White police were not responsible for this. On May 2, 2021, in St. Paul, 173 shots were fired in a 3-hour span, injuring seven people. It might be a good time to address the real issue. At least if we want to be truthful that these shootings are unacceptable.

Healthcare Guilt

As I was thinking about healthcare in the USA, my mind replayed an unfortunate scene I witnessed at a Minute Clinic a while back. A man was there with a young girl and he was asking about cost. After being told it would be over $100, he looked at the sick child and said, "You should have to pay for this." I saw the girl shrink under the comment and I wondered why healthcare in America is so difficult. No child should have to feel guilty and no parent should feel so low on resources as to guilt a sick child. This should not be happening.

2020 Election Politics

While I honestly believe that the Democratic Party is causing serious social problems with an unrealistic far-left agenda, I have to admit that when I look at the Democratic politicians and candidates, they are far more representative in their diversity, of my own neighborhood, than are the Republican politicians and candidates who seem to be rather white bread. As I tend to immerse myself in both sides in an attempt to find the truth, I can see that Donald Trump still has a following; in spite of an almost complete lack of compassion and truthfulness. We obviously need a change at the top. And when that happens, I hope some focus moves to all of the children who are being hurt or killed and all of the gun violence that is not being caused by law enforcement. There is still the need for people to be responsible for their own actions; regardless of their race, sex religion or economic status.

Protest for Shooting Victim?

Protest? Anybody care if a 2-year-old gets shot? Anyone?

Another Child Shot, No Protest Expected

What if We Stopped Teaching War?

What if we didn't teach children that war is a way to prove your courage and manhood? Wars are somehow legal, when the small wars fought between rival gangs are not. Yet they seem to be motivated by similar ideas. What if everyone in the world decided that wars are bad? Would that mean we might have to have peace?

Minnesota's Answer to the Achievement Gap

Some racial groups are not scoring as well as others in academic testing. Some demographics have a higher number of behavior issues. How do we fix this? Should we "dumb-down" the standards and rules to close the achievement gap? Because that is what I'm seeing from our education system right now. Don't tell me some people can't live up to the standards. That is simply not true and another backhanded form of discrimination. If you work hard and obey the rules, good things should happen. My wife is from a family of immigrants and she was born across the world from where she lives now. Her family were refugees when she arrived in the USA. She now has her Master's degree in Education and teaches Art. When I met her she was teaching jr. high. The artwork the students created was spectacular. When the art program was cut due to funding, she left that district for a new one with a new emerging art program for elementary age kids. I expected the artwork would be less....

Kids vs Political Correctness

Is it a real concern, or is it just my conservative side... because I wonder when the neighbor who is a school psychologist decides he's going to change from being a man into a woman, is he still a good choice to be counseling our children? I just have to wonder if the person who is counseling the children can't figure out their own life, can they really be helpful to people who are starting out?

Only Justice for Aranda

https://abcnews.go.com/US/man-threw-year-mall-america-balcony-tells-police/story?id=62423602 For Emmanuel Aranda, who threw a 5-year-old child from the 3rd floor of the Mall of America, there is only one fitting punishment. He should suffer the same fate. Whatever problems the man has, he completely lost all my sympathy. Anyone who hurts or kills a child deserves only pain and death. This is all I will say about this, except that I pray that this child does not have permanent damage.

Children Should Not be Separated from Parents

Whatever your political leanings or your attitude toward President Trump, it should be easy to see that children should not be separated from their parents at the border. As a father, I feel like my child is best cared for and happiest when he is with mom and dad. Whether or not you believe in open borders or strict border control and immigration, especially if you are a parent, you should understand that separating children from their parents is the stuff of governments without conscience s. This is not supposed to be what happens in the USA; but it does. It needs to stop. Process people without terrorizing them and their children. I am totally against the practice of separating children from their parents unless it is for the safety of the children.
