American Water Lotus

I noticed the American Water Lotus were blooming in a nearby lake that we canoe and go fishing in. So, today we went to see them. We also did a little fishing, and my wife caught a nice sunfish that we released. The two swans that we saw in late June were still there. They don't appear to have ever tried to hatch the eggs we saw strewn about on the island. I still think that perhaps they are a young pair, not yet ready to raise a family. We also saw Water-lilies. But it was the Lotus that were spectacular at this time of the year.

New Life for the MCM Lamp

We love the old Modeline floor lamp. I had rewired it a long time ago, when the switch broke and so I removed it. "The Moment"

Morning Garden 20260801

A Broad-winged hawk was chasing a crow and temporarily landed 10 feet from me while I was in the garden. I had heard the crow "rattling," for quite a while before that. It's always interesting what I might encounter in my own yard. Was it purely an accident, or was the high intellect of the crow engaged in trying to bring the pursuing hawk close to the human, to throw it off the chase? Ground Beetle  Waiting Spider

Two Harbors & Gooseberry Falls

The morning walk on the breaker in Two Harbors was sparkling! There was still fog out on Lake Superior. Then, we visited Gooseberry Falls.
