When I went to pick up my son from his friend's house last evening, a deer was suddenly laying on the road in front of my car. It had just been hit by one of the cars ahead of me, and there wasn't much I could do, so I went right over the top of it, and waited for the thump. The car went over, and I didn't hear anything. Apparently, the car was high enough, and the deer was laying on its side, in convulsions, and nothing happened. But it sure was freaky!

When the lies outweigh any truth by a hundredfold, and when some of them can't be proven until it's too late, such as climate change, we can still focus in on easily verifiable lies.

How the Ukraine became independent, and the nuclear arsenal that was turned over to Russia in the process, all play into the danger of what is happening today. Even if nuclear weapons are not used, Ukraine has nuclear power plants and the risks are high. Most of the world realizes this, except for some countries in favor of authoritarian regimes, and some in the Republican Party of the USA, who still follow Trump. Donald Trump has gone on record as saying that Vladimir Putin is a genius for invading Ukraine. The history is out there if you care to find it. Why this matters to the rest of the world, should become obvious and the similarities to World War II are at best, frightening. This is a good testament, to the fact that while the everyday people may be good, a few mentally unstable, authoritarian leaders, are able to jeopardize world peace and security.

With all the snow we've had recently and the warmer daytime temperatures there has been a lot of melting going on. Just this morning, in the dark, when the temperatures were back below freezing, I was on dry roads until I reached the highway ramp and found that it was covered in ice! My car started sliding sideways because of the angle of the ramp and it was quite an unnerving feeling because of the speed in which one is going in order to merge into the traffic on the highway. Thankfully the sliding was only perhaps for a second before my tires slid onto dry pavement again. Had traffic been heavier or if I had been driving faster, things might have been much worse.

To the woman who drove through the red light and came within a second of killing me as I was walking in the crosswalk in downtown St. Paul this afternoon—your lack of attention/consideration, almost cost my family to lose "Dad." Slow down and obey the traffic rules!

Yesterday evening after dark, in the rain, I noticed two separate drivers without the lights on in their cars. One was coming as I was turning and I saw her at the last moment. I tried to tell her to turn her lights on; but she was extremely angry with me for cutting her off (because I couldn't see her coming in the dark). Between the rain, people who won't stop for red lights or get over for emergency vehicles, this makes driving dangerous! But this morning, I made a mistake too. I came out of the well lit bathroom like I always do but when I turned out the light it was completely dark in the hallway. So I walked for the kitchen like I always do; because we have a motion light that comes on. But I misjudged where the corner of the wall was, leading out to the garage. So now I have a good reminder to be more careful!

Another dangerous situation was created by Black Lives Matter yesterday, as they took their protest onto a busy freeway—because of the shooting of a supposedly handcuffed black man . The protest that endangered hundreds of people on a busy freeway was clearly wrong. That said, if the investigation proves that Jamar Clark was handcuffed while he was shot by police, I will admit that there is a problem. However, I challenge everyone else that if it is proved that Clark was not handcuffed, to admit that "someone" is lying in order to further a false premise to cause civil unrest and promote racial turbulence. Either way, one of these two things should be condemned by the public. Whichever story is false, should cause us to react and change the forces of that falsity.

I have noticed since the days are shorter and it gets dark for longer, that there are numerous people in my neighborhood who like to run across the street in front of cars in the dark! Don't they know that their lives matter? This morning, in the dark, in the rain, a guy ran in front of my car just blocks from home—I think he was trying to catch the bus that was behind me. I only managed to see him at the last second and slammed on my brakes; in the rain, and he got to the other side without being killed... The image was like I remember from driver's training long ago in the simulator—when a person would appear out of nowhere in front of you! If I hadn't reacted as quickly as I did, this guy may have missed the bus permanently. Stop running in front of cars—especially in the dark!

Yesterday as I watched a news feed about Black Lives Matter marching in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day , I wondered if Dr. King would approve of them blocking the light rail system ? I also found it ironic that since the police were the focus of their protest, that the police were keeping the protesters off of Interstate 94—which had they gotten on the freeway (like they have before ), could have resulted in a lethal and tragic situation. Then I formed a question in my mind. Do black lives really matter to this group? What I mean is, I could show numerous black on black deadly violence incidents that have occurred—yet the only ones that seem to matter to Black Lives Matter are the proportionally smaller number that have occurred when police have used deadly force. My question: If there are two black lives and one black life shoots and kills the other one, does this matter?
