Minneapolis Released Police Body Cam Footage

I'm convinced that Thurman Blevins would never have been shot by police if he had followed their instructions. Instead, he ran and can be seen with a gun in the video. Those who are still shouting for "justice," are not looking for justice. They are looking for revenge.

If I was to fault the officers involved, it might be that no one (in most any other job) can repeatedly shout the "F" word at someone; and perhaps they should shout "police" instead.

The last time I was pulled over by a police officer, he cited speeding as the reason but I know he was trolling for DWI arrests. When he was unable to give me either a ticket for speeding or arrest me for DWI, he began to swear at me. Then he let me go on my way. I think more professionalism was warranted. Had I reacted to his tirade, I may have been arrested that night. But I remained quiet and only answered his direct questions.

Let's not forget that police are necessary to retain law and order. It is not an easy job, nor one that I would want. When they have not done anything wrong, they should be treated with respect. This particular event should be considered resolved now.

During brief remarks to the press early this morning, CuTRis said he was calling, "Bullshed" on President Donald Trump. When asked exactly what he was referring to, CuTRis replied,
"Pretty much everything he has ever said—including the things he said, and then said the opposite thing a day or two later."

International Owl Center

We visited the International Owl Center in Houston, MN. It is a tiny place with a big interest in owls. There were 3 live owls on site. The program was great. If you were to visit and not have the opportunity to see the program, you might feel cheated—so make sure your visit coincides with one. This little center has the hope to be big someday. Hopefully that will happen.

Historic Forestville

We visited Historic Forestville in Preston, MN. I had thought it was bigger; since the website refers to the town. It is, however, the house, store and a few other buildings of the town's (formerly) most influential family. Still, walking into that store and house was like walking into a historic novel. Even though it was raining when we visited, the tours were full and the old town was bustling. The bridge and grounds around the Root River are spectacular.

Mystery Cave

We visited the Mystery Cave in Preston, MN. Our tour guide, Joseph, took us on an hour trip below ground where we saw a number of amazing formations. Most spectacular was the pool of water near the end of the tour. It appeared that the tours were all full so I suggest buying tickets in advance like we did.

At least 9 shots were fired in a crowded Minnehaha Park yesterday. No one is overly concerned and no protests are planned since police were not involved in the shooting.

Fort Snelling on July 4th

I took my family to Fort Snelling for July 4th this year and it was an amazing experience! I must applaud the interpretive staff for making it an enjoyable and informative time. We watched dress parades, a mock battle, musket and cannon firing, and listened to the reading of The Declaration of Independence. On our drive over in the morning, we navigated six inch deep puddles in flooded roads as the sky opened up and rain poured down along with lightning and thunder!. When we arrived at the fort, there was a line waiting to check-in despite the weather. It seems that even a monsoon doesn't stop this show! By the time we walked down to the old fort, the sky was beginning to clear and we settled in for a great time. Later, I toured the gallery exhibit, Courage and Compassion: Our Shared Story of the Japanese American World War II Experience. The entire thing left me feeling humbled. I thought too, of my mother's German-American family, who left their native language and German culture behind during WW2, lest they suffer the same fate described by the Japanese Americans in the exhibit. Today, this sentiment of distrust is sometimes transferred to Muslim-Americans. It is a reminder that while we seek security, we must not spread hatred. We are, after all, a diverse nation.
