As a protest, I will now stop watching any football game (or sporting event) if the players "take a knee" or otherwise behave disrespectfully toward the country that has enabled them to become millionaires by playing a game. This is my right as a free American citizen. This has nothing to do with supporting Trump. He has lost my support already. Now it's time to see if professional sports can do without me too.

It's a nice way to break in the new stadium too. It was a great debut for Sam Bradford and Stefon Diggs played great! Now they should trade Adrian Peterson for a bottle of Gatorade and continue to move on.

With the passing of Muhammad Ali on Friday, I saw the end of more than a boxing legend. Back in those days I could enjoy the art of the boxing match—which was forever ruined after the fight between Ray Mancini and Duk-koo Kim ; in which Kim died. I had cheered Muhammad Ali and later, we all watched his physical decline. I cannot condone fighting as an art or as entertainment any longer. Yet Muhammad Ali will always be one of the greatest boxers of all time in my opinion. It was tragic to see his decline; and likely too many blows to the head had ultimately taken their toll.

Let's face it. Ball deflation is a serious (and sometimes embarrassing) topic! When I heard that the New England Patriots won their championship game with under-inflated balls I was astounded! "Were all of their balls under-inflated?" I asked. "11 out of 12" I was told. Hmmmm... There are 11 men on the field from each team; so that means only one of them had properly inflated balls? And they still won the game? While I was thinking about my own balls and how upset I would be if one of them deflated, I began to marvel that the Patriots had won the game so decisively! I mean if someone was going to cheat, I would think poorly inflated balls would be a difficult thing to pull off! Would you have some reverse-inflation gadget in the protective cup? Now I could see if it was the Patriots who were trying to deflate the balls of the Indianapolis Colts , because after living briefly in New England I developed the impression that the Mafia was involved in al...

Details of the Adrian Peterson plea deal were revealed yesterday and the penalties are stiff! Adrian will avoid any jail time, but he will have to pay a $4000 fine! Since he has been paid $700,000 per week while not even having to play football, the fine is like if a "normal" person was fined 4 cents. Second, Peterson must perform 80 hours of community service! This horrible experience will likely include smiling, holding a football, and maybe even signing some autographs and maybe talking to some kids. It is really too awful to think about. Why not just send him to the chain gang ? For his part, Adrian said he accepts responsibility and he loves his son—who he beat with a stick until he bled. I've been hearing a lot of unfair criticism about the Minnesota Vikings . People are always judging them based on their football playing ability! Sure, if you judge them on that, I agree that they suck. But why doesn't anyone ever judge them on something they are good at? Like for instance, getting arrest ed. They lead the NFL at that! No one ever says, "Wow! The Vikings sure are good at needlepoint ! Now I don't know if they are good at it, but that is the point! Nobody even talks about anything except football! It's football this and football that! OK fine! They can't play football. I don't recall that they ever could! They've gone through countless players and coaches and they still suck. I for one, have been a longtime nearly solo voice saying that Adrian Peterson is overrated. I've watched numerous great running backs come and go from the Minnesota Vikings and the team has decided that AP is the greatest thing ever. Plenty of Vikings fans feel the same way. Maybe because he is a good football player and he has a boyish smile that makes him likeable. But he is the poster child for a serious problem in the United States. The man has fathered numerous children—and been a "dad" to hardly any of them. The tragedy of one of his son's being murdered, is overshadowed by the child not really knowing his real father. Children need parents who show responsibility and can teach them. Sending a check to the woman you impregnated, does not make you a dad. You suck Adrian Peterson and this comes from a dad and a Vikings fan. You, and everyone who has children and takes no responsibility for their care and upbringing—you all suck too! I understand, from watching the news, that the Minnesota Wild hockey team is in the playoffs and things are getting exciting. Twenty years or so ago, I was a fan of the Minnesota North Stars hockey team. Back then, the games were still on (free) television. Though toward the end of the team's existence, playoff games (especially) were offered on pay-per-view or you had to sit at the bar to watch them. Either way, you had to be willing to spend money to be a fan. I had, a few times, gone to the games at the old Met Center. As the venues to see professional hockey became narrower and more expensive, I found that this once avid fan, was losing interest. It was just too much trouble and expense. Eventually, the team was moved to Dallas. That pretty much killed my interest in the sport. Now the Minnesota Wild have won their way to playoff game 7, but the games are still not on regular TV and I don't hang out in bars to watch. So good luck to the team; but I probably won't b...
