The Crime Boss

Imagine if the CEO of a company was removed from his job, and then he organized a mob and they stormed the building and caused damage and death. Now imagine that this same former CEO was convicted of falsifying business records. Imagine he was indicted and paid off large sums of money for crimes such as sexual assault. Imagine the same person lied over and over and it was proven that he maliciously lied about immigrants, and other people. Imagine he used inflated numbers that could not exist in the scenarios in which he was using them. Then imagine, dire warnings from people who worked with him that he should never be in power again. And then, imagine that the company's board of directors rehired him to be CEO again.

CuTRis will Likely be Harris' Vice President

CuTRis will Likely be Harris' Vice President UnAssociated Press August 1, 2024 It is now widely thought that CuTRis will be Kamala Harris ' running mate, as Vice President. CuTRis is well known for his belief that Donald Trump is a total ass clown . "Trump is all about scaring paranoid people into fearing "brown people." It's ridiculous I know, but it works with those who follow him in spite of his criminal activity, insults and mistreatment of women, minorities, disabled people and anyone who isn't rich and white," CuTRis told reporters. "The real enemy is not minorities and immigrants," he continued. "It's corporations that are draining the money, and the life, out of the American people."

Vikings Lose Thielen and Keep Cousins

Just to set the record straight, Adam Thielen was let go from the Minnesota Vikings for being too old and costing too much. Meanwhile, Kirk Cousins is two years older and made more than $30 million more (than Thielen) in 2022. Kirk Cousins Born August 19, 1988 · Barrington, Illinois Salary in 2022 $35 million Adam Thielen Born: Aug 22, 1990 · Detroit Lakes, Minnesota Salary in 2022 $4,253,529 I could have fixed the salary cap with one trade and kept all the fan favorites. Sure we would need a quarterback again, but Kirkland products are pretty easy to replace.

Toxic Supervisor

Over the weekend having heard the bragging of a hospital financial administrator, it reinforced my belief that it takes more than an MBA to make a good supervisor. Her comments about firing people who didn’t do what she wanted, were nothing short of shocking. If a company, did things right, they probably spent lots of time and money seeking out the best talent to work for them. Terminating an employee may be how a medieval monarch would handle the situation, but firing someone should always be considered a last resort. It is not good to have a manager with such little regard for people and assets. Perhaps she was just bragging about her “power,” but I know from having a long and varied work history, that nothing will send me into a full-on job search, like an immature or mean-spirited supervisor.

The Truth in Business

A company, or a person, who is more concerned about how things look, than how things really are, is ultimately living a lie. This deception will dominate the internal culture, and affect the well-being of the organization and people. Positive change happens organically and holistically. It is not just painted on a sign or talked about and scripted by a carefully selected spokesperson. When it is real, the need to flaunt it is not really necessary.

Labor Shortage?

I keep hearing about a labor shortage, and it makes me wonder if it is real. When I was growing up, my dad liked to read the want ads for cars and houses. It was his thing. I like looking at employment ads. I’ve always liked to keep apprised of the opportunities available. When I was laid off due to COVID-19, I applied for over 2000 jobs in 10 months. This is what I found during that time.  &nbsp1. Human Resources job descriptions, are designed to eliminate applicants based on what they don’t have; rather than to explore what candidates do have. This is the “easy way” to do it. If they state that you need 7 years’ experience in a certain thing and you don’t have it, you’re out! If you need a particular degree in a particular area and don’t have it, likewise—you’re no longer considered.  &nbsp2. The requirements are stacked pretty high for the good jobs. If a candidate can somehow fulfil them all satisfactorily, the next barrier is compensation. Once you are in the running, i...

Amazon COVID-19 Writers Block

Since my layoff, I've been writing a novel and also my annual children's book; which is my son's Christmas present. Both books are about COVID-19. Today when I went into my Amazon publishing account, I found that my children's book has been blocked. After much difficulty contacting anyone I found that Amazon is blocking all books related to COVID-19. They don't come out and say that anywhere, but I did finally get to speak to someone who verified this. The children's book features a little boy from Minnesota; and breaks the virus and reactions to it into "pieces" that are easily understood. It is disappointing that I can't publish, but more disappointing that this gift to my son has been blocked by an unforeseen and unforgiving business decision. -KJC

What I Learned about Business During the Pandemic

The pandemic taught us much about business practices. For instance, how best to cut staff to save money and preserve the important people. From what I observed, cutting the people who make the least amount of money nets the most savings. These are the people who do the work; and so are less important. The top administrators should all be kept; because they talk about doing work; and so are more important. They may also be who decides who gets laid off. If you have for example, one director and four deputy directors, all should be kept--even if half the workforce is cut. Another rule of thumb is, (another example), if you have a work unit of 13, consisting of 2 supervisors and 11 workers, cut 7 of the workers and keep the 2 supervisors for the remaining 4 workers. This will ensure to maximize meetings, while making the remaining employees work harder. This is truly the best plan during difficult economic times.
