While canoeing a seldom used small, weedy, city lake in the St. Paul area, we noticed large eggs scattered on an island. There were two swans nearby, and it seemed logical the eggs came from them. There didn't appear to be any nest, but as we canoed around the island there were at least a dozen eggs, and none noticeably broken. Could the swans be young and not know enough to nest and incubate the eggs?
We almost got stuck while exploring, because the water got shallow, the bottom was muck and the weeds turned into a thick mat!
The dragonflies were thick! The water lilies were beautiful. And the weather was just about perfect.
