I recently noticed that those who want something all of the time, are not necessarily among those who help when someone else needs it.

Walking into the convenience store, a man needed only two items. His wife had asked him to buy a can of salt and he needed a new battery for the smoke detector that had started to beep. Before he could leave the store, however, he was involved in some kind of an exchange with the cashier. In the end, he was charged for a salt and battery.

1. The idea that everyone should walk around with a loaded gun as long as they have a permit. More people are being killed by guns than ever before. I think this can be called a failure. Even if they are legal permit holders (like the guy who pulled a gun on me in traffic one morning), their guns are likely getting out into the hands of people who shouldn't have them. 2. The idea that certain people are not (held) responsible for their actions, behavior, education, children, income, etc., because they belong to a particular demographic. If we all truly believe in equal rights, then everyone is responsible too. That means you stop blaming everyone else for your bad behavior and poor performance. Oh there's more; but let's start with this.

Back to the Future

Last night I watched "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" with my preschool age son. The show was first broadcast in 1966, so I watched it when I was his age. These classics defy time and are still as good today as they were back then. Linus , in spite of his need for a security blanket, usually seems to be one of the more well-read characters—except when it comes to "The Great Pumpkin." While Charlie Brown is only invited to the Halloween party by mistake, and though he only gets rocks (instead of candy) while trick-or-treating, it is Linus who undermines his own fun by spending the night in the pumpkin patch waiting for the Great Pumpkin! While it might be fine to believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny or even the Tooth-Fairy, only a blockhead would believe in something as silly as the Great Pumpkin!

Why would I want 365 cups of coffee ? How would I carry it out? How could I drive away in my car without spilling it? If I actually drank that much coffee it would probably kill me. This doesn't sound like a good deal...

Hillary Clinton wants new gun control laws. Apparently she is the only one brave enough to take on this issue with any realism. I heard our daily local gun murder news this morning and I agree something needs to change. Hillary, you just jumped up in my opinion.

Do you or someone you know have Expiration Date Blindness? While rarely fatal, it is marked by an almost complete lack of consideration for expiration dates on products. Often, someone suffering from EDB will reach for the product that has less time according to the expiration date, and take the one that still has plenty of time to wait. It might mean taking the battery with four years left instead of using the one that expires next year. It could mean pushing aside the eggs that expire in two days, and taking several from the carton marked for the week after next. It may also extend to taking the banana purchased today and leaving the one from three days ago to sit and rot. It may seem harmless to some, but EDB is a huge waste of money and products. If you follow the news, you may have heard the story about the Oregon college shooting . Here in the Twin Cities, there was a local shooting in Chaska (not a city known for violent crime). I think that this is more proof that more guns in the hands of more people makes everyone much safer! Is President Obama right? If we are tired of the constant carnage produced by gun violence should we really start voting for gun control advocates? I'm sure there will be a lot of disagreement about that because Americans sure do love their guns. Apparently they love guns enough to ignore the daily, nightly, weekly, hourly murders taking place. We can see the news stories, but nothing ever changes. Should we really try to change this? I mean... what right do we have to try to save a lot of people from being shot to death? Is it really worth saving innocent lives if we can't all run around like cowboys packing guns? How are we going to be safe unless everybody has a gun? Nothing says safe...
