Government Shutdown

I just got an email from my contact at the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, where I have been known to volunteer as a (volunteer) park ranger. They are preparing for a government shutdown and closing the Refuge if that happens. The wildlife is busy packing up in case they have to leave.

Mini Thanksgiving!

This was half a turkey that I found at my local Cub grocery store. I cut it into four pieces and cooked it for 2 hours at 350° F. Then I added the vegetables and cooked it for another hour. Then I let it rest for a little while and when everybody was home and ready for dinner, they were pretty excited about how good this tasted.

More Stuffed Peppers!

This time I finished them with pizza sauce and shredded mozzarella.

Charcoal Grilled Pork Chops

I can remember when my wife told me she didn't like pork. Then I gave her one of my charcoal grilled pork chops with the bone in. She told me that it was one of the best things she had ever tasted! She wanted to know what it was. I told her that it was pork! Because if you are Hmong, pork at a Hmong celebration is boiled in a big cauldron and has big gobs of fat attached to a tiny little bit of meat. It in no way represents what a pork chop grilled well done over charcoal is...

Tasty Bargain

Something I like to do, is find that about to expire chicken on sale at the grocery store, and take it home and put in on the grill so it turns into dinner.
