I stopped to talk to Grace at the memory care my dad was at all summer, after my TV job tonight. I thanked her for caring for dad. She said they "clicked," and she thought of him like her dad. The other woman who works evenings said he was a good guy and funny. I'm glad I did that. There was closure in it. Definitely for me, but maybe for all of us. Maybe for dad too. Tomorrow is one month since he died.
Because the health and wellness director at that facility was fighting with our hospice team, we moved dad out of there so quickly that I never got to say thank you or goodbye to Grace. I left a message through another employee, but that didn't seem to be good enough. It always bothered me. Because we had had so much difficulty with that head nurse, I really didn't want to go back there. However, I had visited dad after my TV job a few times, and Grace was always there in the evening, so I chose to stop by then. After how some of our politicians have maligned immigrants, I wanted this woman to know how much we all appreciated her and I wanted say goodbye.
