Tears Against the Window

Tears Against the Window By Kevin J. Curtis Copyright ©2023 20231013 Tears against the window as the storm cries The wind rages into the night Love lost forever as breath fades and dies Waiting for dawn to shed some light Wasted time no amount of money buys Howling frenzy sends chills tonight Memories of a bright life, as time flies The eyes though staring, lose the sight Untangling the mixture of truth and lies Why don’t they all, wish for what’s right? The cruelty of time is of no surprise Win the battle and lose the fight Out of the forest, down under the skies Down the mountain’s dizzying height No one’s a failure as long as he tries Human frailty and mankind’s plight --- The light shines through And dries all the tears My heart beats true And crushes the fears

My Carrot Harvest

Carrots bought from the store, just do not have the same flavor as homegrown.

Brussels Sprouts

My wife's Brussels sprouts that she ignored, look better than mine do. Mine were smaller, I think because my garden had more things growing in it.

The End...

Last week the recycling truck ran into my mailbox and broke it. But this week, I lost two people. One, is emotionally broken, but believes she is always right. I watched this one grow up, so it was hard when I tried to help, and was told where to go, when I refused to validate the destructive behavior. The other, is a friend from childhood, who I first met in kindergarten. He disappeared periodically, and so when he did that again, it wasn't too concerning. But he's now dying of liver failure. In each case, the behavior is self-destructive, and the soul beneath is unchanging and unreachable. So now I feel old, numb and helpless. Each year brings more memories of people who have left. It's not as easy to fix as a mailbox.

That's Funny...

Change in the Weather

I'm sitting out on my deck in semi darkness in a strong wind, with a mist falling on me, at the cusp of a major change in weather patterns. It's so cool!

Government Shutdown

I just got an email from my contact at the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, where I have been known to volunteer as a (volunteer) park ranger. They are preparing for a government shutdown and closing the Refuge if that happens. The wildlife is busy packing up in case they have to leave.

Mini Thanksgiving!

This was half a turkey that I found at my local Cub grocery store. I cut it into four pieces and cooked it for 2 hours at 350° F. Then I added the vegetables and cooked it for another hour. Then I let it rest for a little while and when everybody was home and ready for dinner, they were pretty excited about how good this tasted.

More Stuffed Peppers!

This time I finished them with pizza sauce and shredded mozzarella.
