What about God?

For me it's not so much about whether or if, as it is about what. I have no problem with a higher power. My issue is accepting other people's interpretation of what that means.

Laid Off Nonprofit Workers

Just to clarify, those of us who were laid off from nonprofit organizations do not necessarily get the same unemployment benefits as everyone else. Mine ran out months ago, since I worked for the Minnesota Historical Society. I also hadn't looked too hard for a new job at first--since I was told my furlough was temporary. It is these people who lost incomes and whose benefits dried up, who need help. Everyone, does not need a government payment.

Accepted Job Offer

It was a long road back, but after applying for hundreds of jobs, often the good ones having hundreds of applicants, a former employer has offered me a job. Today I've accepted it. The mass layoffs due to the pandemic, caused (in my opinion) many IT roles to become underpaid contract jobs; with out-of-state recruiters who don't know St. Paul from Duluth... or even Dallas. It was difficult at times, to stay positive. But I'm not a newbie to these unforeseen circumstances. I'm also looking forward to my first fully remote job. To anyone still looking, don't give up. I ran my job search like a business. Recently, things changed and I was getting more interviews. I think I can even pinpoint the influx of positive energy to the day I donated blood. Good creates more good. God willing, this pandemic won't last forever. The organizations that use this time to recruit good talent with honesty and integrity, will have invested wisely in the future.

Steak with White Sauce

I don't see steak paired with white sauce and pasta too often at restaurants, and it's delicious. Of course, most restaurants don't use 20 ingredients either; also delicious!

Job Interview During COVID-19

Yesterday I had a job interview that was in person. Most are virtual because of the pandemic. I had tried to get more information before going to see if it was really worth it, but they could not even supply me with the original job posting. So I went anyway to see what they had to say. The guy who was interviewing me did not wear a mask and told me I didn't have to if I didn't want to. I told him that I wanted to. I think I decided right then that I didn't want to work there, but when I found out what he intended to pay, which believe me was not easy, as he didn't want to let me know this information either, I excused myself and left. Not only do I not want to work there, the experience gave me a poor opinion of the business in general.

History Should Keep to Facts

Months ago I emailed the directors of the Minnesota Historical Society, cautioning them about calling the unfortunate death of George Floyd a "murder," before the accused has been tried and convicted in a court of law. We all saw the video and have our opinions, but our constitution guarantees an unbiased trial. As a native Minnesotan, who has ties to MNHS, I am disappointed that politics have been placed above the law in public comments. For me, it undermines the relevance of the historical value. Murder, may or may not be proven. We do know factually, that a man died while another kneeled on his neck. None of us can truly know the motive. Again, I caution MNHS to stick to facts and leave law and politics to the proper authorities.

Regardless of the color of those involved, fact must be held above emotions. Justice for everyone will never happen if individuals are allowed to pick when the law applies and whether it doesn't. In these politically charged situations, it is even more crucial to hold the constitution above personal politics.

Texas Power Struggle

I'm really sorry to hear what's going on in Texas with the power outage. But I'm also confused. It seems that they are asking for federal assistance, while also talking about seceding from the Union.
