Superhero: Boy Man!

I have been communicating by written notes with my 4-year-old son. I leave a note for him when I leave home and I have a note back from him when I get home. Yesterday he met me at the door with a cape and mask and he told me that he was a superhero called, "Boy Man!" Later, I found his note. He is definitely a superhero to me!

I photographed this Turkey Vulture today while walking in the 90+ degree (Fahrenheit), humid weather. I see these cool birds frequently in the warm months, but it is rare to see one so close that isn't flying.

While delivering a speech at the GOP National Convention, it soon became apparent that CuTRis was plagiarizing the Gettysburg Address. In fact, the only original portion of the speech, before CuTRis was escorted out of the building by security, was "Don't vote for Trump."

New Mission of Police

The new mission for police officers is quite simple really. Stop crime and stop murders without using force. Go into highly dangerous situations where guns are being used to commit murders; and don't use your gun while trying to stop the threats—especially when confronting a person of African ancestry. Do not pull anyone over for suspicious activity if they are of African ancestry; as this could lead to violent confrontation and subsequent protests. Be ready to stop violence without resorting to violence.

Deadly Confrontation with Police

Deadly Confrontation with Police
UnAssociated Press
July 15, 2016

A man with green skin was able to avoid a deadly confrontation with police today, by following all of their directions. 906 cameras recorded the routine traffic stop, but no one posted it on social media because it was uneventful and would serve no political agenda—other than how to act during a stop by police and how to respond appropriately and rationally. No protests are scheduled at this time.

When You Realize

When you realize that you are really not important to someone you've known your entire life—who by most people's standards, you would assume that you were, it can be hurtful. Yet I have learned not to dwell too much on these things that I cannot control. If I did, I would undoubtedly be a very depressed individual. It is best to pretend that you don't care. This becomes slightly easier after decades of reinforcement.

Two Children Shot in N. Minneapolis

As the world mourns for two adults shot by police recently, there is not apt to be any protests for the children shot by "stray" bullets during a gang related shooting in North Minneapolis. These children were innocent and did nothing to deserve this!

Wake up people! This needs to stop!

Cause and Effect

adjective

1. noting a relationship between actions or events such that one or more is the result of the other or others.

The shooting of Philando Castile is a tragedy. It is also a time for everyone to be careful how they react to it. Governor Mark Dayton has said this would not have happened if Castile had been white; though we still do not have all the facts of what had happened prior to the now widely viewed video taken by Castile’s girlfriend. Because of this, I believe that Mark Dayton has contributed to the public unrest. This is cause and effect.

It might be a good time for all of us to think about the cause and effect of what each one of us does and says. It is possible that the officer who shot Castile was reacting to the fact that a disproportional number of gun related murders are committed by young black men. Because of this, the officer may have been more likely to distrust a young black man with a gun (even if the gun was legal). It might not be right or politically correct, but police officers are human and they need to make quick life-and-death decisions.

As protesters react to the shooting of Philando Castile and another recent incident, the shooting death of five police officers in Dallas is likely to have the effect of causing police to be even more suspicious of young black men.

I remember the 911 attacks in September of 2001. The United States had the sympathy of the entire world as the victim of a tragic attack. That support soon "dried up" once the U.S. military was sent into foreign countries to avenge the many deaths. That is cause and effect. If you are being mistreated, I will walk with you in protest. If you blame your problems on the color of my skin, I will not walk with you. If you commit murder, steal or destroy in the process, I will likewise not walk with you. If you jump to conclusions before the facts are known, I will be waiting for those facts and answers. All of these things are fueled by cause and effect. We need to stop the killing. Whether it is black on black, police on black or whatever divisive combination you care to come up with (to further your own political agenda), you are contributing to the cause and effect. Whether you choose to do it in a beneficial way is up to you; but it will ultimately influence the future and could get someone else killed in the process. If you are angry and/or irresponsible you might not care. But a lot of us do care. A lot of us have friends and even relatives who are of a different race than us. Some of us have children who are. I hope our children can live in a world that we have improved—because racism, distrust and how we deal with tragedy and controversy are learned. What are we teaching our children? Children aren't born prejudice. I know that, because I grew up across the street from a black kid who was a playmate. My son has two races and two cultures and two languages. He loves both of them.

We need police officers. they are the first people we call when we need help or when there is trouble. They have a dangerous and difficult job sometimes. They need to be wary of who they are confronting. Their lives depend on it. How you want police officers to view you, your race and your culture, starts with you as an individual and extends to everyone else around you. Don't turn the legacy of this tragedy into a worsening of our society. Be careful of your words and actions; and let it be a tragic lesson for the betterment of the world. If Philando Castile was the man people say he was, then he would want it that way. —KJC

There's a Mosquito in the House!

I've Heard Too Many Lies...

The video, now on CNN, is very disturbing. It is disturbing because a man is dying from a gunshot wound. It is disturbing because the officer who shot him is still pointing his weapon at him. It is disturbing because we don't see what happened prior to the fatal shot. We don't see any reason for it; because the video starts after the man has been shot. It is disturbing because it happened close to home. But most disturbing of all, may be that the man's girlfriend was posting it live on Facebook—which I have to say, would not be what I would be doing in her position. In fact, an angry commentary of the whole thing (which while sensationalizing it, CNN also found that they must "bleep" out much of the audio) would not be my primary concern at that moment. Is that what you are supposed to do??? If someone you care about is shot right next to you do you grab your phone and make sure to get it on Facebook?

The entire thing is so very disturbing. And I (and everyone else) have been lied to on more than one occasion—so I will not be making any unfounded judgements, attending any protests or accepting any BLM rhetoric. But the police had better come up with some evidence to support this shooting and they had better do it sooner rather than later.

Note * The video link at the top is the closest to the original CNN video that was posted and later replaced. For some reason, the video on Youtube seems to be a reverse image--as the driver's side of the car appears to be on the right. The original video I viewed was short, had much audio "bleeped" out and mostly showed a man dying.
