The Troublemaker

No matter how well you do something, and how honest and trustworthy you are, there is always someone who revels in undermining the process and spreading discontent. While your immediate response may be outrage, and justifiably so, it's good to remember that this person has a personality deficit, and likes to spread unhappiness. Because regardless of how superior the individual acts, this is a very unhappy person.

Navigating a Foreign Culture

Having married into another culture, I have frequently been asked to respect the traditions, even if they go against logic and reasonable, modern thinking. So, being my own individual, I go along and help out as much as seems reasonable to myself. And then, I excuse myself when I must--even if I am accused of being impolite for not following. But I am not a follower. I make my own decisions based on everything that I know and believe.

Tomorrow my main job will be cooking a turkey! Happy Thanksgiving everyone! If you count from 1621, this would be the 402nd Thanksgiving. If you use 1789, when President George Washington proclaimed it as a national holiday, it is 234 years old. Either way, it's impressive--as well as a secular holiday all can enjoy.

Picture Remake!

A little over 11 years ago, there was a picture of me with my son hiking. My wife thought we should remake that picture today. My son was a good sport and went along with it. Somehow, it didn't look right though. I think it mostly had to do with the fact that I was wearing sunglasses in the first picture, and I didn't have sunglasses with me today...
