Duracell Coppertop Batteries - Bad Quality

One 9-volt in smoke detector "popped" and the detector started "chirping." Two AAA in the programmable thermostat failed the first night and I woke up at 4:00 AM to a house that was 59 degrees F. Both times the batteries were new and had dates well into the future (the AAA's were 2025). There is apparently no quality control. They are made in China.
