Cutris Speaks to the World

"While I am proud of being a citizen of the United States of America, our great country has been involved in things and in places that we should not be—often in pursuit of our addiction to oil. Had we stayed on the course that former President Jimmy Carter laid out during the energy crisis at the end of the 1970's, we may be in a much better situation today. Less fossil fuels and more renewable energy are needed for so many reasons; both economic and environmental.
"While economic conditions have continued to decline, governmental bodies preach job creation, while simultaneously cutting government jobs and issuing 'stimulus packages' to artificially 'jump-start' the economy. The economy ruptured as a result of the greed of many people in the banking, real-estate and business sectors. Sending nearly all of our manufacturing business overseas after World War II, left formerly prosperous cities poor and crime ridden.
"Though our immigrant families can tell you that education is the key to a better life, here in the USA deep cuts are destroying our educational system that is already lagging behind many other countries. With these cuts, we are also destroying our country's future and the futures of the children who are growing up in it. The No Child Left Behind laws could be renamed 'every child left behind,' as this and some desegregation, and special education programs have crippled the budgets of mainstream education. It seems that when something works, such as the Social Security program, it is then tapped for funding lots of things it wasn't initially supposed to be used for. Eventually this 'bleeding' of the system degrades or destroys it.
"So far I've talked mainly about my own country, though I could find many faults within other countries such as, human rights violations, terrorist activities, and violence against women and children. There is also forced prostitution, imprisonment, maiming, murder and beheadings—posted on the Internet. Does anyone have a conscience anymore?
"The world is filled with lots of living things and all of them deserve more respect than they are getting. If we can work together for the betterment of all, we will leave a better world for future generations. What kind of a world do you want your children to live in? Should it be one where they might be gunned down or blown up by some religious zealot on a rampage, or one where Christian, Jewish and Muslim children play together and can't imagine a world where they would be taught to hate each other?
"All of us have the power to change this world—one small piece at a time."
