Stir-Fry: Break some Rules!
You may have some ideas about how to make a stir-fry and they may or may not be good ones. I think the tendency is to cook the meat first; which can lead to overcooked meat. In this instance I added the salmon 7th. The beans take longest, so they went in first. Also, salmon is typically not what I would use in a stir-fry, and my family seemed to enjoy it as the only meat ingredient in this one. In cooking, sometimes creativity or breaking a few rules is a good thing.

Goodbye Midas
As predicted, Midas passed away quietly overnight. During her life, she was not always quiet--but rather liked banging the lid of her tank at all hours of the day and night. She lived a long life, 12 years with us in 3 different homes. She will be missed and we now return her spirit to God. Funeral and burial services will be this evening, August 15, 2018.

Emergency at Bde Maka Ska!
The call came in at 8:52 AM. There was a medical emergency at Bde Maka Ska! The paramedics were racing down the road with siren on and lights flashing! But to where?
"Is it near Lake Calhoun?" asked the driver.
"I don't know!" answered his partner.
As the paramedics rolled on past the newly erected sign, the bystanders looked on in disbelief!

Jeffers Petroglyphs
My favorite site from our recent trip was definitely the Jeffers Petroglyphs! We toured the rock outcrop with Chuck, who was both knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the multitude of rock carvings. The whole thing reminds me of an ancient database. The lighting can make all the difference in seeing the animals, hand and foot prints and other amazing signs and ideas depicted by these long-gone artists and scholars. We also took advantage of the atlatl range for throwing spears/darts.
Sod House on the Prairie
Located on a farm in Sanborn, Minnesota, we found the Prairie Sod House. This exhibit is quite interesting and the "Soddy" appears well maintained. However, many of the other structures are showing signs of decay. I enjoyed this place and the fact that you can go inside of the Soddy and Dugout.
Harkin Store
We visited the Harkin Store in New Ulm, Minnesota. While this is an interesting story and we can step into it, it is also one of the smallest "museums" that I have ever been to.
Fort Ridgely
We visited Fort Ridgely in Fairfax, Minnesota. The one existing building houses the visitor center and museum. Outside, the stone foundations show where the fort's buildings had been and signage helps to tell the story.
