Bloody Stupid!

Under the direction of RFK, Jr., the U.S. Department of Health, has, changed the status of bleeding. Henceforth, bleeding will not be considered a health threat, and so stopping bleeding, may not be covered by insurance. Have a great day!

Vaccines and Politics

Recently, when I was editing my book "Covid Time," for the last time before publishing, I couldn't help but notice all of the crazy things that we as a people have been through--especially since the pandemic. So I was kind of lost in thought, when a co-worker was talking about having covid during a virtual meeting. I offhandedly said "at least it's not killing people the way it was originally--I think due to the vaccine." The supervisor, who referred to COVID-19 as "The Big C," (which is a reference to cancer in my world) expertly moved away from the issue, and I couldn't help but think I had made a stupid political faux pas. Lost in thought about everything we've been through, and all the people we have lost, and all of the stupid political decisions that had been made on both sides, it slipped my mind how politically charged the whole idea of vaccination has become. Science cannot be talked about any longer, because of a faction on the p...

Truth and Compassion, or Self-important Evil?

For the entire summer, my family has been dealing with my dad's age and Parkinson's related decline. After a fall in June he ended up in the hospital, and then in Transitional Care, before we then had to find a place for him to get the care he needed that was now too much for my elderly mother to provide. We did find a place that seemed good and they said they would only charge for what he needed. They had good reviews. This place was expensive and didn't provide all the services they charged for. Pricing was "a la carte" which really meant they charged for everything. There were many caring staff, but the Health and Wellness Director, Michelle Allen used bullying when we had concerns. She routinely threatened to raise the price when we had questions, and she blamed inappropriate treatment on dad's dementia. Perhaps she is on commission, but her focus was on extracting as much money from our family as possible. When I asked about hospice care, she insisted d...

Truth in the USA???

There is an unfortunate problem in the United States of America , with knowing, telling and believing the truth . While it is generally not talked about, poverty in the USA is the 4th leading cause of death . When so many other countries have successfully implemented national healthcare , why does the USA not have it? One of the main arguments against it, seems to be that it takes too long to get appointments to see a doctor when you need one. Since it regularly takes two months to see a doctor (often longer for a specialist), now , in the United States, I call BS on that argument. Some countries even have free or reduced cost for college educations ! Not in the USA though. The "richest country in the world," seems to only apply to a small fraction of the US population. In fact, if the US government sees you as below the poverty line , you are in pretty bad shape. So, the issue in America, is that corporations tend to dictate to the politicians, and the politicians then ...

Broken Healthcare

My virtual doctor appointment lasted 3 minutes and they billed $292. It took 2 months to get the appointment, and then one test was mistakenly not done, and needed to be redone. But this is supposedly better than national health insurance? That's a crock of crap.

COVID-19 Cases High

COVID-19 cases are currently very high and the variants are extremely contagious. People are getting less sick; mostly due to the vaccine. But despite how most people are behaving, this is NOT over.

We Can Do Better America

Seven years ago a guy having a road rage attack, chased my car for several miles while pointing a gun at me. Had I pulled into a dead-end alley rather than a police station parking lot, I might be dead. When the police caught up to the guy, they found the Glock 9mm I had described on the seat of the truck. It had a high-capacity clip. There was also a filet knife in the door of his truck. He told the officer that I was (his words written in the police report) a "raghead from Pakistan." He also had a small amount of marijuana. They released him because he had a permit to carry a gun; and he said he never pulled the gun out. Last year I needed to see a medical specialist. It took two months to get in. After a scan, it took two more months to get in for the follow-up. Fortunately, the doctor said I was okay. But it took four months to find that out. I've been told that we can't have national health insurance in the U.S. because in countries where they do have it, it tak...

The Right Political Flaws

I see a flaw in a political position that protects the rights of the unborn, and simultaneously promotes guns while gun violence destroys the living. I find it ironic that the same political views that say they promote freedom, are simultaneously working to restrict personal choices of health and lifestyle. The reason the truth is being altered, is because the arguments simply aren't logical on their own merit.

Because the Vaccine Worked

Mistakes Can Cost A Lot

My wife just spent two hours on the phone, to fix her father’s medical/health insurance account. Someone updated it with a new address, health tests for someone else and an ER visit he never had. Not only is this a potential for incorrect billing, but the poor test results on his records for another person, could impact his already too lengthy wait for a donor kidney. He doesn’t speak English very well, so he is at the mercy of the system—unless a son or daughter intervenes. My wife was disconnected a few times, before finally reaching a supervisor who began the process to remedy this serious mistake. This is why it is important to have quality employees, and reward those who are competent and who care.

Healthcare Guilt

As I was thinking about healthcare in the USA, my mind replayed an unfortunate scene I witnessed at a Minute Clinic a while back. A man was there with a young girl and he was asking about cost. After being told it would be over $100, he looked at the sick child and said, "You should have to pay for this." I saw the girl shrink under the comment and I wondered why healthcare in America is so difficult. No child should have to feel guilty and no parent should feel so low on resources as to guilt a sick child. This should not be happening.

COVID-19 and Sunshine

If ultraviolet light kills viruses, wouldn't a few minutes in the Sun every day be good for everyone? I mean so long as you are limiting the time so you are not getting burned. It may not eliminate covid-19, but wouldn't it possibly help?

President Trump Talks about Coronavirus

President Donald Trump attempted to take control of the coronavirus situation last evening with a prime-time speech. "You know I was really surprised to find out that the Chinese invented Coronavirus! I said to the vice president, do you see? They beat us again! But be that as it may, we are doing many great things with Coronavirus many many great things. I can't tell you all of them, some are good some are bad most are good, but we're doing many many things. Certainly, we will be able to invent the next big virus right here in this country. In the meantime, we are banning travel to and from Europe, and also all of the shit-hole countries." The president also attempted to reassure the country by saying the United States is "more prepared" to fight the pandemic than any other nation. "The virus will not have a chance against us," he said. In light of the President's history of distorting the truth, many people heard this as, "We...

Keep Fighting Unfair Healthcare Billing

I win again.

Tell Lawmakers to End Healthcare Billing Abuse

HealthPartners just called me again to tell me that the coders have it just right. Even though my son had never seen his new doctor before and she was asking questions about his prescriptions, this was not considered preventive care. So they are charging for an additional office visit on top of the preventive visit. This is just a way to steal my money and it has to stop. Everyone who is sick of this needs to contact their state representative to ask that surprise billing stops.

HealthPartners Double Billing Drives Up Healthcare Cost

Health Partners is billing for two simultaneous appointments because we had prescriptions refilled that were running out. They keep calling to tell me it is legitimate because it is a preexisting condition. I keep telling them it is "legal" theft because prescriptions are part of preventative care (which we don't pay for). They are now reaching for things in the "notes" to bolster their argument for taking my money. I've asked the Minnesota Attorney General to help—because this is one more reason that healthcare in the USA is broken and way too expensive.
