When you realize that you are really not important to someone you've known your entire life—who by most people's standards, you would assume that you were, it can be hurtful. Yet I have learned not to dwell too much on these things that I cannot control. If I did, I would undoubtedly be a very depressed individual. It is best to pretend that you don't care. This becomes slightly easier after decades of reinforcement.
